The mountains are one of the most spectacular environments in the world. With ever-higher summits and vertiginous cliffs, you are faced with the grandeur of nature and a spectacular panorama.

However, to fully enjoy what this world has to offer, it's important to understand all its facets. Today, we're talking about the safety course organised by ESF and S3V, for a worry-free holiday in the heart of the mountains.

Safety: a priority during your mountain holiday

Planning your next mountain holiday? There are a few things you need to know before setting off on a high-altitude adventure, especially if you want to try your hand at activities such as off-piste skiing or ski touring

Away from the beaten track, you expose yourself to certain dangers that you should be aware of beforehand. Although snow is a skier's or winter sports enthusiast's best friend, it also poses major safety risks. Unpredictable and versatile, it can quickly put your life at risk.

You need to be prepared for all eventualities if you are to master the powder snow in excellent conditions. As part of your holiday, you'll have the opportunity to take part in a safety course with qualified instructors, whose job is to familiarise you with the dangers of the mountains and the reflexes to adopt in the event of an incident.

A safety course to learn the basics

The safety course run by ESF and S3V (Société des 3 Vallées) is designed to ensure your safety when you're in the mountains of Courchevel or elsewhere.

You'll learn everything you need to know for safe outings: how to choose the right itinerary depending on the weather, understand the evolution of snowfalls, know how to use rescue equipment (avalanche transceivers, probes, etc.), etc.

The safety course will give you greater autonomy on your mountain outings and provide you with the keys to being prepared for any eventuality.

On the programme: presentation of safety equipment, avalanche simulation exercises, study of the weather, theoretical lesson on the dangers to avoid and how to alert the emergency services in the event of a problem. At the end of your training, you'll have valuable information that could one day save your life

Relevant training alongside specialist instructors

The mountain safety course is open to anyone who wants it, and can be run as a private lesson or in a group of 3 to 6 people maximum. This format allows you to ask any questions you may have and enables each participant to fully understand the different subjects covered.

Depending on your availability and current knowledge, there are several training durations to choose from: 2 hours, 4 hours or a full day. In all cases, you will need to bring your own equipment, although safety equipment will be provided on site.
