‘If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine… It is lethal!’- Paulo Coelho
Denis Metge has been a ski instructor for 20 years. Every day, he lives out his passion to the full!
Coming right from the 18th arrondissement of the French capital, Denis Metge skied for the first time with his family when he was four. He immediately loved this experience, which he describes as a ‘revelation’. He particularly enjoys the mountains as well as sliding in an environment surrounded by nature. What he likes most is off-piste skiing, and above all, sharing all these unique moments with his friends!
He took part in downhill skiing competitions from 13 to 20 in the P.U.C, and then in other national and international competitions in mountaineering.
Later, Denis went to Grenoble to do his studies, where he had the opportunity to meet someone from Courchevel who needed backup during holidays- he therefore went there and never left the place!
Since then, he has been working within ESF Courchevel, but he also takes time to ski for his own pleasure. He especially enjoys skiing on his favourite slope, the Jockeys, although he also likes Le Rocher and La Loze, Les Dents de la Portetta and the Géffriand, as well as La Vallée des Encombres.
Today, he can speak two languages (English and French). The rest of the year, he also works as a lifeguard and as a cycling instructor. Led by his love for mountains and for teaching, has been instructing ski for 20 years. He is specialised in alpine skiing, snowboarding, off-piste and ski touring and for him, the best way to teach is to adapt to his learner in several different ways; taking his level into account and addressing his needs to help him progress in the most suitable way are for him the basis of teaching. But before anything else, you should always share your love for skiing.
His best memories? Whenever he is able to help his learners progress, but also when he leads them to places they thought they could never reach!
Even if Denis Metge likes all forms of sports, he also loves music, cinema and vintage cars, especially Austin mini Cooper!
